Adspect – cloud-based cloaking service with built-in tracker


Review of Adspect — a cloud-based cloaking service with a built-in tracker, bot filtering, and protection against spy services. We analysed the steps to create a Facebook Ads campaign and the core functionality of the service.

Principle of operation: visitors click a link and land on an intermediate PHP script that collects detailed information. After hundreds of different checks, Adspect determines whether the visitor is targeted or untrusted. Targeted visitors see the main content, untrusted visitors see a white page.

The evaluation is also performed by the VLA™ (Virtual Learning Appliance) machine learning technology. It analyses incoming traffic, detects suspicious patterns in visitor fingerprints, and identifies moderators, click fraud, and other threats. According to the developers, VLA constantly self-learns and adapts to new types of traffic threats.

In addition to its own filters and databases, the Adspect service uses 12 competing cloaking services, including Magic Checker, Fraudfilter, Noipfraud, and Traffic Armor.

Stream setup

  • To create a stream, go to the Streams section and click Create Stream.

  • Select the traffic source for which the stream will be created. We will use Facebook Ads as an example.

  • Specify the name of the stream and the stream modes. The default is Moderation.

Stream modes:

  1. Filter — Main mode for filtering conversions in real time using Adspect technologies, including VLA™ machine learning.
  2. Moderation — Special mode for campaign moderation, shows a white page, trains VLA™.
  3. Content — Auxiliary mode, displays a content page for testing.
  4. White Page — Auxiliary mode showing a white page, useful for testing; recommended when stopping campaigns.
  • In the content and white page section, specify a link to the main landing and to the white page. You can set up to 254 content pages for split testing.

  • Configure the filtering level.

Available filtering levels:

  1. Minimum: All filters and VLA™ are disabled. Use only when absolutely necessary.
  2. Low: Blocks major threats (IT corporations, hostings, antivirus companies), VLA™ disabled. Suitable for apps and WebView.
  3. Medium: Blocks IT corporations, data centers, and ISPs, VLA™ enabled, and verification via 12 cloaking services.
  4. High: Same as “Medium”, plus IP checks for affiliation with blocked organizations over the last 3 years and use of external databases.
  5. Paranoia: Same as “High”, plus blocking government, military, scientific, and educational institutions. Maximum security with risk of traffic loss.

If you are unsure which filtering level to choose, use “Medium”.

  • Customize the stream by country and device.

  • In the statistics settings, set the Sub ID and Click ID parameters. For cost calculations, specify the click price.

If necessary, you can additionally filter the stream by IP address, user agent, referrer, and time zone.

  • After configuring the stream, click Create Stream.

The configured stream is displayed in the “Streams” section.

Integration

Integration is connecting the Adspect filtering system to a landing page, website, or third-party tracker.

Various integration types are supported, differing in technical details and scope:

  1. Direct PHP integration
  2. Reverse PHP integration
  3. JavaScript integration
  4. Keitaro filter
  • Go to the Streams section and click “Integration”.

White Page generation

In the Safe Pages section, you can create unique white pages for cloaking based on Google Play, App Store, and Microsoft apps, Amazon products, WordPress templates, and your own templates in just a couple of clicks.

Statistics

The Reporting section displays information about connected streams. The section consists of 3 parts:

  • Report parameters: date and time range, time zone, funnel groupings, filters
  • Sales funnel table
  • Transitions log table
