>In Vietnam’s southern province Ben Tre, 12 people have been arrested for organizing a network of gambling sites with a total turnover of more than $72 million.
On October 15, Ben Tre police together with other law enforcement agencies, detained Vo Vu Lam and 11 others as part of an investigation into a case of gambling and organizing illegal gambling activities.
Three of those arrested, Vo Vu Lam, Ngo Anh Hoa, and Nguyen Minh Thoi, have been identified as ringleaders of the group. Police are also checking another 60 people for involvement in illegal activities.
Those arrested have already confessed to running the gambling network since late 2023 and could be sentenced to prison terms ranging from three months to ten years. The ring reportedly included multiple sites and consisted of 30 branches involving hundreds of accounts.
The group allegedly used foreign social networks, fake SIM cards, and fraudulent bank accounts to facilitate transactions and manage illegal activities.
Law enforcement seized $40k in cash, as well as jewelry, laptops, tablets, phones and weapons. The investigation is still ongoing and the identities of all those involved in the case are being established.
