Meta has significantly improved its Brand Rights Protection (BRP) tool, giving companies more options to combat fraudulent advertising and identity misuse on Facebook and Instagram.
The updated platform now allows all registered brands to report fraudulent ads in high volume, even if these ads do not directly infringe intellectual property such as trademarks or copyrights. This expansion aims to combat misleading and fraudulent promotions that use mentions of other people’s brands or celebrities to promote.
The new option to report fraudulent posts is available in the “Other” category of the BRP ads section, allowing Meta to more quickly identify and remove fake posts.
In addition to the above feature, Meta has redesigned the removal request process, making it faster and more user-friendly. The updated interface now includes separate subcategories for copyright, forgery, impersonation, and trademarks under “Drafts.”
Businesses can also take advantage of improved search and filtering tools in the “Reports” section that allow them to search by email ID, keyword, or trademark name, making it easier to track and manage infringement cases.
Meta has said the updates are part of a broader anti-fraud strategy that combines automated detection systems, manual moderation, and engagement with law enforcement and industry organizations.
It is noted that the company removed more than 157 million ads worldwide on Facebook and Instagram in 2024 for violations related to fraud and deceptive business practices.
Meta is encouraging more brand owners to register with BRP, emphasizing that companies themselves play a key role in protecting their online identity. The company has also published step-by-step instructions on how to use the improved tool in the Help Center.
These updates are expected to help companies of all sizes ensure that their reputations are well-protected and reduce the spread of fraudulent ads targeting unsuspecting consumers.
