The Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), together with the Ministry of Finance (MEF), has obliged all licensed online gambling operators to register on the platform of Brazil’s consumer protection agency, SENACON. If operators don’t follow this requirement, they can be fined.
The platform is designed to make it easier for players to get the necessary information and simplify the resolution of possible disputes with operators. SENACON will also monitor consumer rights, as the country’s gambling market has only recently become regulated.
“Mandatory registration on Consumidor.gov.br is a fundamental step to ensure that bettors’ rights are respected. Brazilians now have a direct and efficient channel to register and monitor their complaints, which strengthens the balance in consumer relations,” said SENACON Secretary, Wadih Damous.
It is expected that players will be able to submit complaints against licensees directly through the consumidor.gov.br platform, and operators will be required to address them within 10 days.
“The participation of betting operators on the platform Consumidor.gov.br reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Finance to ensure that all practices are carried out in accordance with legal standards, with respect for consumer-bettors,” said Regis Dudena, the agency’s secretary.
Federal gambling regulator SPA said it will work with SENACON to monitor the behavior and reputation of licensed operators.
