Myanmar’s military carried out a raid on another major online scam center in the Shwe Kokko area on the Thai border. During the operation, officers detained 346 foreign nationals and seized nearly 10,000 mobile phones used in online-fraud schemes.
The scam hub was located in Shwe Kokko, a zone that has appeared in investigations for several years as a base for fraud networks, gambling operations, and crypto-investment platforms. According to the official version, security forces entered several buildings in the compound and found hundreds of operators working on computers and phones.
As the crackdown continues, even the scam-center “workers” are leaving the region: after the October raid on KK Park, more than 1,500 foreign nationals, including citizens of China, India, and other neighboring countries, have been departing Myanmar and crossing into Thailand. Regional news reports show long lines of people with suitcases being moved out from border points and from the KK Park and Shwe Kokko areas.
Junta spokesperson Major General Zaw Min Tun said that operations in the Myawaddy area aim to fully eliminate online fraud and illegal online gambling, and are being carried out in coordination with China and other countries in the region.
This is the second major center the military has publicly reported in recent months: earlier, in October, authorities announced a raid in which more than 2,000 people were detained and around 30 Starlink terminals were seized, along with the demolition of buildings in KK Park, another well-known scam zone on the Thai-Myanmar border. Together, these actions are framed as part of a broad campaign targeting industrial-scale scam complexes in the border regions.
