In the Yakkasaray district of Tashkent, 12 foreign citizens and 18 residents of Uzbekistan were detained on suspicion of organizing the online casino.
Based on operational information, during the inspection of one of the houses with the participation of witnesses, it was found that illegal gambling activities were carried out there. The house was rented by residents of foreign countries.
As a result of the search, 37 laptops, $1400 cash, 34 SIM cards, 7 phones, and 12 bank cards were seized. The investigation found that the turnover of the underground casino for three months has exceeded $900 thousand.
The police initiated a criminal case under Article 278 (Illegal organization or conduct of gambling and other risk-based games, including the organization or maintenance of dens for such games). The detainees can be punished with imprisonment for 7 to 10 years.
It is worth noting that Uzbekistan has had a legal ban on organizing and conducting gambling games since September 1, 2007. However, the President of Uzbekistan recently signed a decree that will allow the organization of online risk-based gambling and betting activities from 2025.
