On Tuesday, the Turkish Ministry of Trade publicly announced tough measures against the promotion of unlicensed online casinos on social media.
It is known that the Turkish Advertising Board recently conducted an operation to identify and suppress the activities of 30 social media accounts that were found to be promoting unlicensed online casinos and betting sites.
The full list of celebrities whose accounts were blocked for users in Turkey by the decision of the regulator remains unknown. However, it is reported that among them are major bloggers, including Murat Övüç (4 million followers on Instagram), Arif Kocabıyık (500,000 followers), and Mert Sarıç (1 million followers on YouTube).
Authorities have stated that accounts will only be restored after the offending content is removed, otherwise, they will remain blocked.
This operation is part of Turkey’s broader strategy to restrict access to gambling sites, advertising content on social networks, and payment services related to the gambling industry. According to previous reports, more than 233,000 illegal gambling sites were blocked in the country in 2024 alone.
