The UAE’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) has issued the first land-based casino business license to the US-based operator Wynn Resorts.
In September, the UAE authorities created a special body to regulate gambling activities. This is due to increasing economic competition from other states in the Middle East. It is expected that the development of the gambling business will attract a wide flow of tourists and finances to the UAE.
Wynn Resorts together with Marjan Corporation and RAK Hospitality Holding is already constructing the premium Wynn Al Marjan Island Resort on Al Marjan Island in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
“We are under way with the construction of our resort in Ras Al Khaimah and look forward to being a key partner in the development of its tourism economy”, the company said in a press release.
The resort will feature 1,542 hotel rooms, conference facilities, stores, restaurants, casino, and other infrastructure. The island is a 15-minute drive from Ras Al Khaimah Airport and 45 minutes from Dubai International Airport. The large-scale project is scheduled to open in early 2027.
