Guardian Australia published an article about the promotion of offshore online gambling to Australian audiences via Instagram, highlighting the limitations of the platform’s advertising content moderation.
The reason for this was the case of an Australian influencer and online streamer known as Dinah, whose Instagram account has about 820,000 followers.

One of her videos, posted last year and garnering over 16,000 likes, featured a caption encouraging gambling and a link to Rainbet. The video shows Dinah being handed a phone with a casino app running.
In another video, the influencer is sitting in the front passenger seat of a car and using the same app. The caption to the post also mentions the brand and includes a link to it.
The posts have since been deleted, but one user, who wished to remain anonymous, provided Guardian Australia with screenshots of his complaints about ten separate Dinah posts from January, which he said promoted the crypto casino.
According to the publication, Meta received dozens of complaints from users pointing to posts advertising the Rainbet online casino. Despite the complaints, the platform reported no violations of its rules.
At the same time, the Australian regulator ACMA had previously issued warnings to the platform, pointing to the placement of advertisements for illegal gambling. Regulatory representatives also noted difficulties in working with Meta on compliance with local requirements.
At the same time, ACMA confirmed that the platform featured in the influencer’s posts later took measures to restrict access for users from Australia.
