The Telegram messenger has seen a steady growth in downloads. A sharp jump was recorded in 2020, due to WhatsApp’s privacy policy update. The total increase over 10 years was about 11.7 times, which emphasizes the successful expansion of Telegram’s user base.

India has become the leader in Telegram downloads in 2024 with over 100 million installations, ahead of Russia (38.4 million) and the US (38.2 million).
