Attractions
Yerevan has a large number of beautiful places and interesting attractions; we will list only some of those we have personally visited.
Republic Square
The heart of Yerevan and the place where getting to know the city begins. If you look at the square from above, its shape resembles an Armenian national ornament. The buildings made of pink tuff look especially beautiful at sunset, when the entire center seems to turn golden. In the evening, the singing fountains come alive here: music, light, and atmosphere gather hundreds of people on the square every day. In May, the show usually runs from 20:00 to 22:00, and in summer from 21:00 to 23:00.
Nearby, you can have dinner at Sherep and simply walk around the evening city center.
Cascade
One of the most recognizable places in Yerevan and the best point to see the city from above. A huge staircase with fountains, modern art objects, and terraces connects the city center with the upper district. The higher you go, the wider the view of Yerevan and Ararat becomes, especially beautiful at sunset, when the city begins to glow with lights. In the evening, locals gather on the steps, street music plays, cafes and bars are open, and nearby you can drink coffee at The Coffee, stop by Wine Republic, or have dinner with a view of the city. Cascade is open 24/7; you can walk along the stairs and observation decks at any time of day or night.
The internal escalators operate from 08:00 to 20:00, and the exhibition halls inside the complex from 10:00 to 20:00.
Garni Temple
The only surviving pagan temple from the ancient era on the territory of Armenia, built in the 1st century AD. It stands on the edge of a picturesque gorge, and its columns and architecture are more reminiscent of ancient Greece or Rome than of the usual Armenian monasteries. It is especially beautiful here in the morning and closer to sunset, when the sun lights the stone with warm golden light and views of the mountains and the Azat River gorge open around it.
Basalt Organ
Very nearby is the famous “Basalt Organ,” or “Symphony of Stones,” a rare natural formation of solidified lava that is millions of years old. Huge hexagonal rocks look as if they were specially arranged along the walls of the gorge, which makes the place resemble a giant stone organ. After rain or in the evening, the basalt becomes almost black, and the landscape looks especially impressive.
After the walk, you can stop by Old Garni, a family restaurant with open terraces, Armenian cuisine, and a view of the Azat Gorge. They serve khorovats, fresh lavash from the tonir, homemade dolma, and the famous Garni gata with mountain tea. In the evening, Garni Temple and the surrounding mountains are especially beautiful from here.
Garni Temple is open from 09:00 to 22:00, and the “Symphony of Stones” can be visited at any time of day.
Zvartnots
The ruins of one of the most famous Armenian cathedrals of the 7th century, located about 15 km from Yerevan. For its time, the cathedral was unique: its circular multi-tiered structure and complex architecture were very different from most churches in the region and later influenced the architecture of the Caucasus and Byzantium. It was not only a church, but also the residence of the Catholicos with palace premises, while the temple itself was conceived as a symbol of the strength of the Armenian Church.
The name “Zvartnots” translates as “temple of the vigilant angels.” Even as ruins, the cathedral looks impressive: the preserved columns, arches, and carvings are especially striking against the backdrop of Ararat. It is best to come here in the morning or closer to sunset, when the light highlights the texture of the ancient stone.
The complex is open from 10:00 to 18:00, and in summer the opening hours may be extended until 20:00. There are small coffee and souvenir stalls nearby.
Vernissage Market
Vernissage Market is the most atmospheric place in Yerevan for a walk in search of souvenirs, antiques, and items with Armenian character. The market appeared back in the 1980s, when local artists began selling their paintings here in the open air. Today, among the rows, you can find handmade carpets, old Soviet items, jewelry, backgammon sets, ceramics, and dozens of unusual things that you want to examine for hours.
It is especially lively here on weekends: street music plays, sellers brew coffee, and the whole market turns into a large Armenian bazaar with a creative atmosphere. Many people come here not only for shopping, but also simply to feel the living Yerevan and bring home something truly local.
On weekdays, Vernissage is open from 09:00 to 18:00, and on weekends from 08:00 to 20:00. The best time to visit is Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00, when the largest number of stalls is open.
Where to Sit and What to Try
Yerevan is a convenient city for getting acquainted with Armenian and Georgian cuisine. In the center, you can try lavash from the tonir, khorovats, tolma, gata, khinkali, tan, Armenian wine and brandy, as well as dishes in a more modern restaurant format.

A short selection of dishes, drinks, and places worth adding to your gastronomic route.
Lavash
Lavash is thin Armenian bread baked in a tonir and one of the main symbols of Armenian cuisine. In 2014, UNESCO included the tradition of making lavash in the list of intangible cultural heritage. The bread also has ritual meaning: in Armenian wedding tradition, lavash is placed on the shoulders of newlyweds as a symbol of prosperity and well-being.
Where to try: Lavash Restaurant or Abovyan 12. Lavash is a popular Armenian cuisine restaurant with a 4.8 rating on Tripadvisor. Abovyan 12 is a restaurant and courtyard at 12 Abovyan Street, where reviews separately note the large selection of Armenian dishes, garden seating, and atmosphere of an old Yerevan courtyard; the venue has a 4.0 rating on Tripadvisor
Khorovats
Khorovats is Armenian barbecue cooked over charcoal. It is served with lavash, herbs, vegetables, and sauces. It is not only a meat dish, but also part of the feast culture: khorovats is usually prepared for a group, a family dinner, or a large evening.
Where to try: Sherep or Tavern Yerevan. Sherep is one of the most notable restaurants in the center of Yerevan: it has a 4.8 rating on Tripadvisor. The venue is suitable for a first substantial dinner with Armenian cuisine, meat, hot dishes, and a convenient tourist location.
Tolma
Tolma is grape or cabbage leaves filled with meat, rice, herbs, and spices. In Armenia, it is one of the basic dishes of the home and festive table. It is often served with matsun or garlic sauce.
Where to try: Dolmama, Lavash, or Sherep. If you need a more classic tourist format, choose Lavash or Sherep. If you want a restaurant whose concept itself refers to tolma, you can choose Dolmama.
Gata
Gata is a traditional Armenian sweet pastry. It differs in shape and filling across different regions, but most often it is sweet dough with a buttery layer. Gata is served with tea and coffee, placed on the table for guests, and associated with household prosperity.
Where to try: Gata Tavern or Abovyan 12. Gata Tavern is suitable as a separate stop for dessert and coffee, while Abovyan 12 is a more atmospheric courtyard where you can combine lunch, a walk through the center, and Armenian dishes in one place.
Armenian Wine
Armenia is one of the oldest wine regions. For Yerevan, wine is no longer only history, but also modern urban culture: wine bars, restaurants with good wine lists, and tastings have become part of the evening route through the center.
Where to try: In Vino, Lali, Seasons, or Katsin. In Vino is better suited specifically for a wine bar, Lali for Georgian cuisine and wine, and Seasons and Katsin for a more restaurant-style evening.
Armenian Brandy
Armenian brandy is one of the country’s most recognizable alcoholic symbols. It is better to try it after dinner or as part of a tasting, rather than as a random drink with food.
Where to try: in Armenian cuisine restaurants or at tastings at brandy factories. For a restaurant format, Lavash, Sherep, Dolmama, Lali, Seasons, or Katsin will work if you need a more evening-oriented scenario.
Khinkali
Khinkali is not an Armenian, but a Georgian dish, but in Yerevan it is worth including in the route: the city’s gastronomy has long not been limited to national cuisine alone. The classic version is large dough pouches with meat filling and broth inside.
Where to try: Tumanyan Khinkali / “Tumanyan Khinkali”. The venue has a 4.8 rating on Tripadvisor and more than 3,700 reviews; reviews separately note regular and fried khinkali, fresh products, and a wide selection of dishes.
Modern Restaurant Dinner
Lali Kitchen & Bar
If you want not only khinkali, but a more complete Georgian dinner, you can add Lali Kitchen & Bar. In its Instagram description, the venue positions itself as Modern Georgian Cuisine, while Tripadvisor reviews praise it for Georgian cuisine with a modern accent, an interesting menu, a good wine list, and a location near Republic Square.
Katsin
For a brighter evening, you can choose Katsin. This is not a place only for traditional Armenian cuisine: according to Tripadvisor, the restaurant belongs to the Seafood and Sushi categories and has a 4.3 rating, while reviews describe it as a stylish modern place with live music, dancing waiters, and a vibrant atmosphere.
Seasons Restaurant
Seasons Restaurant is another option for an evening dinner in the center. According to the official Yeremyan Projects page, the restaurant is not strictly tied to one national cuisine: the menu includes meat and vegetable dishes of European cuisine, seafood, and signature presentation. It also states that the atmosphere is complemented by live jazz-blues performances. On Tripadvisor, Seasons has a 4.8 rating and more than 1,000 reviews.
Karaoke at Burlesque Club
If you have not had enough dense networking, you can head to Burlesque Club, a favorite nightlife venue of the affiliate community, to sing karaoke and spend the evening pleasantly.
The place has already become an unofficial gathering point after a packed conference day. There is evening leisure, girls, karaoke, music, drinks, and an atmosphere in which business conversations gradually turn into friendly toasts and shared choruses.
